You will be glad to hear that the hilarious Tommy has now confirmed Saturday 23rd Feb, so the new calender event "Roll on NewportEdition" is going ahead.

I could not get hold of Tommy last week due to him being on holiday  8)

Anyway, it will be £20 a run and Tommy says he can do 15 cars in a day (without rushing) and a few extra if there is time at the end.

As mentioned before £5 deposit will be required to book your place, you can see me at the Feb Meet or Paypal at a push.  First come first serve with members taking priority.

There will be a hopefully be a couple of trophies on offer too, see what I can sort out.

When you confirm then I will need to know what car your running too, and its 2WD only ;)

Hope this is a good season opener for Newport Edition and for those that can not make it and if this one proves popular, then we will run another one later in the year.

Get your fivers in people.

GazB

Some pics from last time.

We hear a lot about different rolling roads being off and cars getting lots of different figures.

So, out of interest, How Accurate are Tommy's rollers?

It depends on the car, some of our read spot on, others read low as hell, when I took my black 1.8t to tommy it read almost 35bhp lower than others.

All rollers are different tho, I got 3 figures for the RD2 on my printouts.

178 @ Westec(RIP)
186@ TSR
212 @ AMD

the only reason we use tommy is he is such a legend :)

This is TSR - http://www.tsr-performance.com/pages/index.asp

Yea I've also heard tommies can be a bit down on forced induction motors, as Gaz says though, he's  still a legend!

My car should be back by then, and with a huge thanks to clarkee I think my oil leak is sorted too ( oil leak = slipping clutch ) so will have to see how the clutch is before the G is a def for the rollers

Either way, will def be there :D

Thanks for the info Rich and Gaz. Unfortunately i'm gonna pass on the RR.

Sure it'll be a good day out for you guys, but despite Tommy being a legend, getting a random bhp figure and no torque info, is not worth me spending £20 tbh.

Gaz

Its just a good day out for us Gaz, £20 is good too, bearing in mind that most places near us charge £60 plus

I understand that mate and i'm not knocking the whole thing. As said, i'm sure it'll be a good day out, but the whole point in having an RR day is to get an accurate reading for your car. If that's not going to be the case, then why not get Tommy down to a meet, have a laugh and its not gonna cost anyone any money.

and that was at TSR, Ry.

like you say all RR are different and we are only doing tommies as that is where people were requesting.

Down at Westec my 1.8t varied by 40bhp on several occasions.

I bet you could go to any 2 RR in the UK and get totally different figures.  My mate has a print out from Westec saying his car was running 1008bhp and it was standard  (they were just testing the rollers at the time mind)

Only way to get a true reading is if your first on after theve been calibrated , wonder how many companies with rolling roads bother to do that .

Imo still worth doing as it can highlight any problems youve got or tell you that although the figure maybe out the engines happy with its ignition and fueling settings .

My first rolling road at tommies was when i discovered that my 8v gti was only putting out 84bhp (nearly got beat by bronzes cab and thats only a 1.8 carb ) the fuelling was shot to hell , if i had not done the session i'd have probally blown up the motor as it was it just had a cracked head .

Worth £20 anyday to find that out and save the hassle of a rebuild or 2nd hand motor .

RR days are more about meeting people, having a laugh, comparing cars & being impressed by the big boys (don't forget filling your lungs up with crap air all day & ending up with big headache when you leave), like said pinch of salt.

For tuning, testing etc they are almost essential & a good way of getting more power out of an engine.

Fair points guys. Though I have been to my share of RR days, so i'm aware of the benefits of them.

Once again, i'm sure it'll be a good day out, but its not for me, thanks.

Gaz

If ive fixed the rado i may put in on the rollers , thats a valver , pretty stock one though , wish project x was gonna be ready for then as that's going to be a screamer of a 16v (2.0ltr bottom end , ported head , 262 cams , stainless 4 branch etc ) , but i cant see the car being ready in time .
